Continued from Outdoor Wolf Fight.

The DM: What sort of tent does the party have?

The DM: Lexent, yes, it is brutal. Serious injury must result from the sort of excessive lifestyles you choose to lead; the chances of these outcomes are low, but they ought to happen occasionally and if they’re easy to dig out of, what would be the point? Sorry, I know you know this, but as a DM I feel the need to reach out on these things.

Lexent: Of course. Merely a statement of fact, not a complaint at all. Thank you for reaching out though.

Lexent: Assuming I have received the staff back, I use it to heal myself for 4+4+3=11.

The DM: 29 to go.

Lexent: I also request that my associates retrieve my spike if it is still servicable.

The DM: The spike is fine. It has to be inserted by a weaponsmith to get the right balance and transform a club into a godentag. Lucky for you, making weapons is related to Marcule’s sage ability of Steam & Gasgear. He could do it with any of the clubs the players have available; all he needs is a hammer.

Lexent: five 8-foot linen and one 30-foot pavilion linen as near as I can tell.

Pandred: I'll take the bits and bobs of your Godentag's ruin. There's some good news here guys. The spears from our last fight are still there. An intelligent enemy probably would have taken them. These undead wolves then might not be a recent summon, assuming their creator is a goblinoid.

The DM: Glad you noticed, Pandred.

The DM: It does occur to you that there were two non-animated dire wolf skeletons in the kennel when you last saw it.

The DM: As long as you can get the tents up, they’re sufficient for Lexent to heal in.

Pandred: Well, the tents are bound to be with the cart, unless Vafrandir or Marcule have them on their person. So I hoist up our injured comrade and start that way. Unless someone interjects.

The DM: Rolling 3d6. A dex check will be needed for any 1 I roll.

I need a single dex-check from Pandred.

Pandred: 3!

Lexent: <Muffled Scream>

The DM: You’re fine. It’s about 2 a.m. The second image I linked in the last post shows the sun below the horizon to the north. It’s difficult, but with the help of Marcule and Vafrandir, who have infravision, and the infravision goggles that Marcule made for you ages ago, Pandred, the three of you can get the tent up while Lexent struggles to remain still. You don’t need to put up the pavilion tent, which will take way too long in these conditions; the 8-foot tent will do.

Pandred: Then we put up the 8 footer. I'll apply the salve for 1 more point on Lex.

Vafrandir: Apologies, all. I was pulled away to a meeting unexpectedly. The tents are in the cart, yes.

The DM: I made rules for my poster; the “camp tent”, which is the new name for your 8-footer, takes 1 hr to put up and ½ hr. to take down and pack, for 1 person. In these conditions, it will take 1 hr for two people, three being too many; someone should cook. It’s 3 am when you’re done, and I’ll need to make malady checks. Nautical twilight returns at 3:07, according to Marcule’s accurate timepiece, also of his own make.

Lexent: "Thank you Pandred. Sorry to be such a burden."

Lexent: I assume that I am exempt from that malady check?

Pandred: Timepiece, ha! Some of us know what time it outdoors anyway.

[interlude]

The DM: The pavilion tent requires 3 hours for three persons to put up; so it would take the three of you 6 hours total, doing it before sunrise. The sun would rise at 4:30, so it would take less than 6 full hours, but it still would be a long time. Malady checks: you started off at 6pm, after being awake for, let’s say, 8 hours, after sleeping as long as you possibly could waiting for the rain. Counting that as half, 4 hrs, towards your maximum of ten, you accumulate a total of 10 hours by midnight. That’s three hours of malady checks before you get the tent up and food made, which is 2% per person per hour. Rolling. Lexent is exempt.

The DM: You’re all fine. Tired, but fine. Eat a little, sleep, and no further malady checks today.

Vafrandir: Quite a fight. I'll take the rest gladly.

Lexent: Likewise.

July 2

The DM: The party begins to pull themselves out of bed by 9:30. No one had the energy to keep watches, but Lexent wasn’t really going to sleep anyway ...

Lexent: I use the staff to heal 3+3+1=7

The DM: 22 to go.
Lexent: 21. I got 1 from Pandred's bottle yesterday.
The DM: 20 then, counting the 1 below.

The DM: When you do wake up, a strong fresh breeze is blowing, with some stinging mist whirling across the landscape. The sky is white overcast, with a very low ceiling, just above the trees it seems like. The temperature is cool and rather decent compared to how brisk it was yesterday morning. The tent can handle the wind.

Pandred: Salve being stingy. 1 more. I'll spend the day collecting stones for a cairn, since I'm full up on hp.

The DM: Isn’t the fork some hours away? You mean to load the cart, then.

The DM: Do Vafrandir and Marcule also wish to rest today? If that’s the case, Pandred will need to cook.

Pandred: Yes, and I'm fine with cooking.

Lexent: I assume that my Injury prevents me from aiding rest?

The DM: Everyone corrected their x.p. on their characters? Pandred, your character is a “veteran” now, not a swordswoman. Not that the fluff matters.

The DM: you can’t walk or bend over, so yes, Aid rest is out of the question, and you can’t do it for yourself.

Pandred: Correct for me. Also, I must have forgotten to update my title. I'm a real greybeard now!

Vafrandir: Let us rest today and go back tomorrow. Lexent will need more care than we're able to give our here. We can stop for a rest and build the cairn, then continue back. I hate to make so many back and forth trips but it is what it is. I think the goblin hall is still active though to what extent we shall see.

The DM: Passing the day. Doesn’t seem to be anything out here that’s moving around. There’s a brief rain around noon, which clears up; the clouds break up and leave mostly blue sky in the afternoon; the temperature isn’t quite pleasant, but moves towards that.

Pandred: Radical. Let's get that leg fixed.

Vafrandir: We'll load the cart and head out as soon as we can. Lexent can ride the cart, no?

The DM: If you leave today, Lexent will not heal at all until he lays through at least all of tomorrow. He can’t travel and heal at the same time, he’s in too much pain.

The DM: To gain any hit points, he needs to rest until 3 am on July 3rd, 24 hrs. from when he (and the rest of you, potentially) started.

The DM: He will not heal faster in Treborg than he would here, except maybe that Monica could aid his rest or that Father Arvin could heal him.

Lexent: I think that they were proposing to leave on the 3rd. I am content to rest and heal here. I continue resting.
