Continued from Skeleton Aftermath

The DM: The players settle up after their first invasion of Grond's Lair.

Lexent: I didn't see a response on the previous page, but my intention had been to heal Marcule. Is that a possibility?

The DM: yes, but I suggest saving it until Marcule is present.
Lexent: I meant with the staff.

Pandred Lex getting the Staff and Marcule getting the Harness. I dole out 4 Adamantiums to everyone but me, who gets 3. I take two swords, everyone else gets 1. I take 3 small gems and both plum-sized gems, everyone else gets 3 small gems. I take the shields and give the dagger to Marcule because he can make use of it.

P=227 treasure XP before 10%, 249 after.
V=232 before, 255 after.
L=632 before, 695 after.
M = 1045, and I don't think they get 10%.
The DM: Correct.

Pandred: By my count that puts Lex at 1531, getting him second level.

Lexent's Level

The DM: Lexent, take another 1st level spell; your THAC0 doesn’t improve; add 1d8 hit points, reroll any 1s; adjust your sage abilities and let me know if anything reaches 10 points that hadn’t before.

Lexent: finally a good roll. I roll an 8.
Lexent: I gain amatuer ability in faith.

Lexent: I had been considering purify food & drink, but if we expect to be encountering more undead soon I might instead go with invisibility to undead. Any thoughts from the party?

Pandred: It's hard to argue with any kind of invisibility, however situational. Unfortunately I'm the voice of the entire rest of the party at the moment.

The DM: Lexent, think long-term. You don’t ever get to change your spell; you could use a little more combative ability; I suggest protection from malevolence, magic stone, or at least command. Those are going to be more universally useful later on, much more than invisibility, which is essentially investigatory and peaceful, not really combative.

The DM: Moreover, purify food & drink is rarely necessary in a land full of freshwater lakes, when you have no reason to fear poisoning enemies.

Lexent So far I have been wary of trying to rely on my casting in combat, but it is a good thing to consider.
Lexent: How does magic stone interact with a sling?
The DM: Magic stone can’t be used with a sling. Once you throw it or drop it, or let it go, the dweomer lasts until it hits something (if you fumble a stone and drop it, the effect is lost). They can be distributed to other people of the same faith for use, including non-levelled persons (hint, hint).
The DM: Protection from Malevolence can be cast before the door is opened, so can magic stone; you make two of the latter, so you can hold them in your hand, throwing them one at a time. Command’s casting time is 1 action point; no chance to have the spell foiled, as you can cast it and throw it in your own round.

The DM: One more thing: I strongly suggest you don’t set up your cleric as a “hang-back healer”; you’ve seen the combat system, and should know you’re going to get into fights whether you try to be a “supportive character” or not. Truth is, the party is stronger with you as another aggressor than it is with your being a behind-the-lines medic.

Lexent: Oh, of that I am well aware. My thoughts had mainly been to use my spellcasting outside of combat and plan to swing my godentag during it.
The DM: You’ll swing better if you’re harder to hit (Prot. fr. M.).

Lexent: May I wait to make my selection until I can check with Marcule regarding his faith?

The DM: Yes of course.

Lexent: What would need to happen to have my godentag improved by the adamantium?

Adding a properly forged spike to the godentag would give it a non-magical +1 to hit and damage. I added an extra note to the question about magic stones.

Pandred I'm ready whenever Lex is to move on to another day. Unless the party chimes in with a desire to do something NOT goblin-hole related, I want to get healed up.

Lexent: Sorry, I just have a couple more things I'd like to get sorted out before moving on if that's ok.

Lexent So which would be sturdier, the iron reinforced shield in poor repair or a well maintained wooden shield?

The DM: I’m not using durability rules just now, so I would go ahead and used the reinforced shield; it will defend against two enemies, not just one.

Healing

Pandred heals 4 hit points per day, 6 h.p. if Lexent uses [aid rest] with her; though that means Lexent can’t heal himself. Lexent can do one person per 5 knowledge points of medicine he has. [aid rest] with her; though that means Lexent can’t heal himself. Lexent can do one person per 5 knowledge points of medicine he has. See Rest.

Lexent: In the meantime I prepare, cast, and discharge Cure Light Wounds on Pandred for 2+4=6.

Pandred: With my own salve, that's a lotta HP. 4+4+6 puts me at a clean 15.

The DM: used your salve already today, this morning, first thing. It is still the 26th. You won't get your rest hit points until tomorrow.
P: I misunderstood, bummer.
The DM: Grin. First you say you rest, then I say a day has passed and THEN you add the hit points.

Lexent Before moving on to the next day, can we check on Anders?

The DM: You can. You wish to tell him about his chest?

Lexent That was my thinking. Thoughts, Pandred?

The DM: Regarding food: I will need 6+4 lbs. per player character, +4 lb. for Oddsdrakken, to account for the food that was eaten during the last two days.

Lexent: Do you have a page detailing food consumption rules. I had been under the impression that it was 3 Lbs for fight days and 2 Lbs for travel days. Or do rations count differently?

The DM: There’s no downside, so let’s say that Anders is shocked to learn what became of it. I don’t know if you kept the label or not, but we’ll say you did, because it makes a nice story. As he rolls it over in his hand, he’ll explain that his cow was stolen from his small farm (north by north west of here), when his wife and boy were asleep. They also broke into the shed and took the chest, though there was nothing in it but turnips. He’s sorry to hear the cow is dead; he was counting on it for milk and cream throughout the summer, for making cheese he would eat all winter. He lets you know its the third cow that’s gone missing from a Ryfolke farm in the last two months.

Pandred: Well then. "Looks like we found where they got off to."

Lexent: "How long ago was the cow taken?

Anders: "3 days ago."

[OOC-DM: Well, shall I let you get off to rest, and we’ll shut down for the week. Sorry to push this off, but I do plan to do this occasionally over the next year. I’ve gotten myself a role in writing content for a company’s ad-ware and quarterly reports, but I’m not supposed to say publicly; this nets me a very fine income that’s inconsistent but suitable for my needs; a week of steady work will be a real boon. We want to move out of our cheap apt. If things go well, we may be able to rent a house in this covid-depressed market, which excites us to death. However, since I hope to continue to poke at the poster-work as well as the contract, that fills my day; I will need these four hours each day. However, I should be finished by the following weekend, unless there’s a new ask, and we can begin again on March 8th.]

Lexent: "I am sorry for the loss this is to your family. Do you happen to know how long ago each of the others were taken?"

Lexent:(OOC) No problem. Thank you Alexis, and good luck. See you on the 8th.

Anders: "Nilsen's bull was taken a fortnight ago, far southeast of here; and Kristensen's calf went four weeks before that; he lives just a mile from me.

The DM: Out.

Alexis: I'm writing this Sunday night to reassure my players that my contract is completed and we will be playing Monday morning, as promised.

Sorting Out Details

Lexent: I thank Anders for the information. I am mostly ready to move on to the next day. I would like to point out a couple of things:

Lexent: It appears as though I drastically underestimated the amount of food I would require. I only have 6 Lbs. at the moment in daily rations. If the party has any excess food, I will happily pay them for it, as I do have a little bit of gold left.
Lexent: I am not sure that we ever positively stated our intention to have Father Arvin contact Fraser (the undead hunter) on our behalf.
Lexent: It might be a good idea for the party to offer a tithe to Father Arvin to secure some healing before moving to the next day. I do intend to use Aid Rest to assist the party in healing tomorrow, but we might want to expidite our recovery.
Lexent: If I am calculating correctly, Pandred and Marcule will each take 4 days to heal under my care, and Vafrandir will take 1 (Although he may prefer Monica's ministrations ;) ). I will not be able to recover hit points while aiding others, and plan to use the staff and my spells on myself first to compensate.
Lexent: I can cure wounds for 1d4+4 and use the staff for 3d4 each day, and I believe Pandred's salve can heal 1d4 HP per day all of which will shorten our recovery time.
Lexent: I still need to know if Marcule follows, or will follow the Gnomish Pantheon. It will affect the selection of my new spell.
Lexent: It seems as though the goblins give cow meat to Grond approximately once per fortnight, and that they were willing to starve themselves to do it. This timing has me concerned and wondering if Grond will become more active approximately two weeks after Anders' cow was taken.

Lexent: I have a meeting at 0900 but should be back in time to start at 1000.

Vafrandir: Lexent, the party shares food and purchases from our collective pot. You are welcome to keep a little food on your person for emergencies (e.g., I have several rations in my pack) but in normal circumstances I perform quartermaster duties and will account for necessary victuals. The full list of cargo may be found here.

Vafrandir: I also think you're on to something with the timing. We may want to hurry and clear the dungeon before Grond figures out his meal ticket is dried up.

The DM: In.

You did not state your intention with the Father and he has no mandate to contact Fraser.
A traditional tithe is 10%.

The DM: Catching up. Marcule’s beliefs are not known to me.

I’d hoped to make it plain that the goblins were feeding the Rothe to the hole in the ground (not confirming it went to Grond), and that they were stealing cows to feed themselves.
Lexent: Ah. I had thought they had run out of Rothe.

Lexent: In.

Lexent: Is there a particular way I should be contributing to the party food supplies?

Vafrandir: When we go to the market sometimes we'll require funds from each to cover the cost. But we'll handle that when we get there. For now, be assured that we have plenty of supplies.

Vafrandir: In/out. I have a few more errands to run but I'll be keeping an eye on the page as I'm able.

The DM: Ready to heal?

Pandred: I won't be In at all today, but I wanted to chime in and say that I will definitely ask the Father to contact Fraser on our behalf. I'd be interested to know if they knew Hamish, but will wait to ask the man himself. Please someone feel free to apply my salve when we heal. I give it freely.

Lexent: That being the case, I turn in for the evening.

The DM: I'm going to take that as the party resting, since you're the only one here and have quorum.

The DM: It’s June 27th; use your cure light wounds, your staff and your bottle. Since Lexent is using his Aid Rest, Vafrandir heals as 5th level (5 pts), Pandred as 6th and Marcule as 2nd. Oddsdrakken will take word to the father to contact Fraser.

Lexent: Yes. I use the the Staff on myself healing 2+1+3=6.

Lexent: I then cast cure light wounds for 2+4=6 and apply 5 of that to myself and 1 to Marcule.

Lexent: That should bring Marcule up to 4 total after the day is done, considering what I healed him from the staff yesterday and the spell today.

Lexent: Finally I apply the Salve to Pandred, rolling a 2.

Lexent: By my count that puts Vafrandir and I at full, Pandred at 15/28, and Marcule at 4/13. Meaning Marcule and Pandred each needs 3 more days minus whatever the magic items give us.

The DM: Call it June 28th; count 2 lb. food each for the two days, counting Odds; the pilot is eating the fish she’s catching. I think her name is Nadia; I’ve forgotten the name of your servant, who is eating 4 lbs. a day, since he’s working. Forgotten his name too.

Lexent: This time I will risk the Staff on Marcule. I roll a 2+2+1=5

Lexent: With cure light wounds I roll a 2+4=6 and apply 1 to Marcule and 5 to Pandred.

Lexent: Again applying Salve to Pandred from her bottle, I roll a 4.

The DM: That makes everyone full and Marcule 1 shy. No more need to rest.

Lexent: This should bring everyone up to full. Does Aiding Rest require my full attention during the whole of the day, or would it be possible for Vafrandir and myself to take a short trip down to Kristensen's property to see if there is anything we could learn about the calf that was taken?

Lexent: Sorry, That's a cross-post, not a contradiction, though did you see that I applied 1 to Marcule from the spell?

The DM: Ah, right, Marcule is healing as 3rd, not 2nd. My bad. Yes, you'll have to wait to the 29th to investigate the calf.

Lexent: Very well. I go to sleep on the evening of the 28th.

The DM: Continuing on next post with June 29th, 1650.

Vafrandir: Her name is Valda. I've accounted for all food.
