Continued from Høle

The DM: The morning of May 23rd, the temperature is consistently cool, the sky features high, streaking clouds and a hint of blue. A moderate breeze is blowing from the northwest. The cart you climb aboard into smells, but the green hay that's been heaped upon it mitigates the odour somewhat. A large, rotund 19 year old girl, Greta, is driving; she is friendly but a bit dense, with a conversation not at all tainted with education.

For a mile you travel on a fair cobbled road, before turning right at a fork and heading off on a cart track; this lasts nearly seven miles, taking you through recently planted hay fields and past gleaming lakes. The wind freshens and the sky develops into a dull blue, with a few puffy clouds. Steadily you make 4 mi. an hour. After two and a half hours, you reach a crossroads that you recognize, as once you met officials of Stavanger here before heading off again for Mimmarudla. You turn north onto a cobblestone road, heading to Stavanger. It is about 10:30 in the morning.

Pandred: I quietly hum the Åsmund Frægdegjevar as we bounce along.

The DM: I listen.
Rogaland

The DM: The party will reach Stavanger about one o'clock in the afternoon. The fresh breeze continues and the wind swings towards north by north west, bringing a strong odor of salt water to the air. The clouds in the sky thicken, so that the blue sky appears briefly.

What does the party want to do in Stavanger?

Stavanger

Vafrandir: We need to go about passage to Treborg. Is someone willing to stay with the baggage while I inquire about this?

The DM: Freight is 9 g.p. per ton of goods to be moved, or 2,000 lbs, per 24 hr period or part thereof. Each living being counts as 2 tons. As the wind is blowing straight from Treborg, you'll be close-hauled all the way unless it changes. That means, 26-28 hrs. of travel.

Pandred: That's 128gp in person-bodies. Vafrandir, with the boat page gone you've got the information on all our other cargo. There would also be a mule and a donkey. Wiki puts average donkey weight at about 500lbs, Mule closer to 900. So just under a ton for the animals.

The DM: each living being counts animals.

Vafrandir: That comes out to about 171.71 gp.

Pandred I can and do pay the entire sum. Our current food should keep us square aboard ship.

Pandred: Miscounted. 11gp short, if someone would dip in there.
Vafrandir: I'll take the slack.

The DM:Is there anything you'd like to do in Stavanger? You have about 1½ hours before the boat leaves at 3 p.m. (counting half an hour for negotiations).

Point in fact, if you overpaid for stabling, don't forget to reap that money back. You've only been gone two days worth of stabling.

Pandred: I'm done. No cash, only anticipation for the journey ahead.

Vafrandir: We will need a cart. Would there be one available in Treborg? Or is Treborg not large enough for a wagonwright?

[OOC: I almost missed this question, buried in the text above. Please add new comments in any category to the bottom]
The DM: Treborg is all of 193 people. There is one road that leads from the village that services farms, and goes to no other settlement.

The DM: Looking at the map, there is a dock about 9 miles south of Treborg, that could be reached in only 20 hours, saving you a whole day of fees. Would you like to amend your costs?

Vafrandir: That's no small savings. Give me a minute to do the math and refund Pandred. I'll also get a cart and two harnesses from my own pocket. [Is this the "bottom"? Or do you mean the very bottom, below #Food?]
Vafrandir: With a cart and one harness (a cart only would have one animal, correct?), the new cost is 87.09 gp and Pandred receives 73.62 gp back (Pandred, I'm not sure how you counted the decimals).

[OOC: no, the bottom of whatever subject heading we're in]

The DM: You didn't actually say so, but I'm taking it that you accounted for the cost to transport the cart. Yes, the cart is for one animal; either the donkey or the mule can pull it. You'll find a tab for animals pulling carts to give you the AP cost for encumbrance (on the encumbrance excel sheet).

Vafrandir: I had it in my short term memory, switched tabs, and had a brain reset. Yes, the cart cost is accounted for in the 87.09 gp.

Followers

The DM: In other news, Fjall and Willa were met by Engelhart when he returned, and learned that you were be let off in Høle. Therefore, they did not leave for Jorpeland.

Pandred: They were factored into the above maths, but it's good to know they're safe. We collect them at first opportunity.

Food

The DM: That's 1 lb. of food each for the 23rd of May.

Vafrandir: Done.

Departing Stavanger

The DM: Pandred said so, and I believe Embla is afk. Marcule is unavailable, probably for the rest of the week. So Vafrandir, good to go?

Vafrandir: Yes, let's depart!
